To me, marching band is more than just an after school activity. It's taught me so much. I have learned how to memorize music, work with people to bring music in a different way than concert band, and it's helped my leadership abilities as well as social skills. It's taught me to make a goal and try as hard as I can, and that striving for excellence is easier when you work as a team, together, and use each other's strengths. Having been a band officer, I have been able to improve my speaking abilities and I am better able to make friends and get along with anyone. --- S, Class of 2016 Marching Band is one of the most important things in my life. It is a part of me and a part of who I am. I feel like I have a family with me whenever I'm here. Marching Band has changed me because it has challenged me to be a leader and help others. ---M, Class of 2015 Being a member of the marching band is different than being a part of any other school activity. There is something so different that is found between the members of the marching band. I wasn't sure how I would be treated as a senior joining the band that was already so much of a family, but there was never a time when I felt unwelcome, which is pretty impressive when dealing with high school students. There is something about working together inside and outside, in the rain or the cold, when tired or sick, that builds the foundations of our relationships. There are so many friendships that I have made through this program and so many experiences that I will never forget. Marching band became my life for months now and there is nothing I miss more. The time I spent at band practice has taught me so many things. I've learned to work hard when I'm tired and to finish strong. I've learned that hard work really pays off when I am focused. Most importantly I learned how to work in a group and that it is important to be patient with others as well as to be patient with myself. I have become a different person because of marching band and I will carry the knowledge I have gained through the rest of my life. There is no way to describe how much of an impact marching band has had on my life, and I don't want to imagine what my senior year would've been like without it. It is hard to accept that I won't be able to be a part of the Avon Lake Marching Shoremen again. --- M, Class of 2014 I would say to incoming freshmen that marching band would be a good decision regarding what to do freshman year. Band is a fun thing and you can make a lot of friends. Also, marching band is like your second home and everybody becomes your family. So, this year, for your freshman year, join marching band --- Freshman, Class of 2017 Marching Band is a lot of fun and was probably the most fun I've ever had being a member of a group. You all grow close like a family and make friends that will last your whole life. I feel it's made me a better person musically as well as a happier person --- Senior, Class of 2014 Being a member of the marching band has made me a more dedicated and responsible person as well as making me able to hold my breath for extended periods of time. I have made many wonderful friends who I wouldn't give up for anything. But the people aren't the only fun thing about band. The music is fun and catchy, and I enjoy playing my instrument and getting to be a better musician. Marching Band is a great experience for many reasons --- Sophomore, Class of 2016 I love being a member of the Avon Lake Marching Shoremen. Everyone is very supportive and I have so much fun. I like being a part of a team and I feel like the band is my family. Band has made me a lot more social because I feel like I can be myself and no one will judge me. I have made many friends through marching band and plan to make many more! --- Junior, Class of 2015 |
