Being a member of the marching band is different than being a part of any other school activity. There is something so different that is found between the members of the marching band. I wasn't sure how I would be treated as a senior joining the band that was already so much of a family, but there was never a time when I felt unwelcome, which is pretty impressive when dealing with high school students.
There is something about working together inside and outside, in the rain or the cold, when tired or sick, that builds the foundations of our relationships. There are so many friendships that I have made through this program and so many experiences that I will never forget.
Marching band became my life for months now and there is nothing I miss more. The time I spent at band practice has taught me so many things. I've learned to work hard when I'm tired and to finish strong. I've learned that hard work really pays off when I am focused. Most importantly I learned how to work in a group and that it is important to be patient with others as well as to be patient with myself.
I have become a different person because of marching band and I will carry the knowledge I have gained through the rest of my life. There is no way to describe how much of an impact marching band has had on my life, and I don't want to imagine what my senior year would've been like without it. It is hard to accept that I won't be able to be a part of the Avon Lake Marching Shoremen again.
